International relations (IR) in Yugoslavia and post-Yugoslav states (co-authored with Marko Kovačević)

In this article, we study how the discipline of International Relations (IR) emerged in post-war socialist Yugoslavia and how it evolved during and after the Cold War with the disintegration of Yugoslavia. In particular, we show that IR emerged in Yugoslavia in the 1950s and throughout the Cold War developed as a Marxist-inspired endeavour in support of self-management socialism at home and non-alignment and active peaceful coexistence abroad. After the collapse of Yugoslavia, its IR community was fragmented along the national lines, disillusioned with Marxism and preoccupied with practical war efforts and state-building, which implied a close interest in statecraft, strategy, geopolitics and realism. Since the early 2000s, IR communities from the region have been reconnecting both with the post-Yugoslav area and keeping up with Western and global IR trends. This has implied greater pluralism and diversity in approaches, focusing on post-conflict reconstruction and regional integration, and a gradual turn towards the liberal, critical and constructivist scholarship.

Introduction to Security Studies

This is a 13 week long  (winter semester) obligatory course for students of Interntaional Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade.

The course covers three thematic areas: theories, sectors and levels of security. Each lecture is followed by seminars where students present their own views on the subject and discuss the issues interactively.

The course is in Serbian language.

Security of Serbia

This is a 13 week long  (summer semester) obligatory course for students of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade.

The course aims to offer students comprehensive insight into security policy and decision making in Serbia in the post-conflict and post-authoritarian context of democratization and Europeanization.

Each lecture is followed by seminars where students present their own views on the subject and discuss the issues interactively. The course is in Serbian language.

I trained 30 mid-career researchers from higher education, civil-society and public administration from across Somalia in Ethics and Research Design to.

The training was organised as part of the High Quality Research Support Programme (HQRS) by Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention, Transparency Solution and University of Bristol in Hargeisa, Somaliland on 14-18 November 2016.

I trained  30 mid-career researchers from higher education, civil-society and public administration from across Somalia in Ethics and Research Design to.

The objectives of the project organized by the University of Belgrade and funded by King Baudoin Foundation (within the TRAIN programme) are to develop, implement and evaluate a structured professional development training program consisting of 7 modules for new academics.

Since 2014 I have been training faculty members in Research Methodology, Scientific Writing and Result Presentation. More information is available here.
